National Treatment Service for People with OCDThe National Commissioning Group of the Department of Health has established a national treatment service for people with OCD who have either not benefited from previous treatments or suffered setbacks after treatment. Treatment will be delivered by highly expert specialists in OCD. The treatment centres involved in this service include:- The Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma at the Maudsley Hospital - an adult outpatient service directed by Professor Paul Salkovskis.
- The Anxiety Disorder Residential Unit at the Bethlem Hospital - a residential unit directed by Dr David Veale.
- The Child and Adolescent OCD Service at the Maudsley Hospital -directed by Dr Isobel Heyman.
- St Georges Hospital - directed by Dr Lynne Drummond.
- The Queen Elizabeth II Hospital - predominantly for medication directed by Professor Naomi Fineberg.
To be eligible for treatment under this service, the OCD must be severe, the person must have completed two or more sets of CBT, and had adequate trials of appropriate medication. The advantages of this service include a minimal waiting list for treatment, and the fact that local services (e.g. Community Mental Health Teams) have to make a referral but don't have to fund the treatment (which is funded on a national basis).
